When Mildred, an 11-year-old bookish girl in New Zealand, finds her mother suddenly in a coma, she’s forced to reconnect with Strawn Wise, the estranged American illusionist father she’s never really known. Together, they set off on a camping trip into the wild to track down the legendary Canterbury Panther—Mildred hopes the footage will fetch enough money to help her mother’s recovery. Along the way, the mismatched duo face absurd obstacles, quirky strangers, danger, and unexpected moments of bonding, in a whimsical adventure that tests whether family can be found in the unlikeliest of journeys.
