In honor of the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the Republic of Turkey, the crescent and star were carried into space, and the first Turkish astronaut was sent to the International Space Station with a science mission, one of the 10 goals determined within the scope of the National Space Program. Alper Gezeravcı, who was selected from 36 thousand people by passing difficult physical and psychological tests, carried out 13 different experiments on the International Space Station in a wide range of areas such as biology, medicine, materials science and genetics. This was Turkey's first manned space mission.
