Bea Smith, once a suburban wife and mother, enters a women’s prison and begins a transformation into a formidable inmate. Inside, she encounters Doreen Anderson, Liz Birdsworth and Franky Doyle, as well as Jacs Holt, a ruthless crime matriarch who holds power within the prison. Among the staff are Meg Jackson, hiding a secret, Vera Bennett, a well-meaning officer pushed to her limits, Erica Davidson, a driven lawyer, and Matthew Fletcher, who favors punishment over rehabilitation.
